Self-Deployer
Model 1/2 OL-SD
Typical Technical Specifications:
Introduction
Overlap self-deployer Model 1/2 OL-SD is a self-
extending, non motorized unit capable of deploying a
60-foot-long (18.29 meters) Tubular Extendible Element
(TEE). The mechanism consists of three major components:
Cradle and Release Device
Tubular Extendible Element (TEE)
Storage Spool Assembly
In the stowed configuration, the TEE is wrapped and
stored on the Storage Spool Assembly and secured to
the cradle by the release device. Deployment is initiated

Energy
Release Device: Pyrotechnic Piston
Actuator
Deployment Rate: Approximately
72 in/sec
(182.88 cm/sec)
Operating
Temperature Range: -54°C to +71°C
by activating a pyrotechnic squib-pin-puller device which
releases a caging strap. A release ejector-spring
provides initial deployment assist for the TEE and the
spool assembly. Deployment continues as the TEE uses
its own stored spring-energy. At full-deployment, the
storage spool assembly is automatically ejected. This
deployment mechanism is designed to meet the
requirements of document MIL-A-083577A (USAF)
General Specification for Moving Mechanical
Assemblies for Space and Launch Vehicles.
