Dual-TEE
Model 225
Introduction
The Dual-TEE unit Model 225 was originally developed for
sounding rocket programs requiring rapid deployment of small
diameter antennas. After many sucessful missions, this unit
was modified for the Hawkeye and AMPE satellite programs.
This compact unit is designed to deploy two (2) individual
70 foot (21mm) long Overlap elements, each measuring
0.25 inch (0.64 cm) diameter. Both elements are
electrically isolated on seperate storage reels within the
unit and driven simultaneously via one common drive
motor. This unit can deploy and retract in orbit.
The deployer features electrical stops at full-extention and
-retraction. A potentiometer provides a continous
indication of deployed length. A serperate electrically
isolated conector is provided for each antennna element.
Typical Technical Specifications:

This deployment mechanism is designed to meet the
requirements of MIL-A-083577B (USAF), General
Specification for Mechanical Assemblies or Space and
Launch Vehicles. This unit can be deployed or retracted
in orbit.
A larger Dual-TEE mechanism desing was developed for
the Radio Astronomy Explorer (RAE) satellites. This first
succesfuul Dual-TEE application was designed to deploy
a 192 meter long (tip-to-tip) libration boom, 1.47 cm
diameter with an Edgelock configuration. Unit weight is
8.4 kilograms. Dimensions are 34.1 cm long by 19.7
cm deep by 25.6 cm high. Deployment rate is
approximatel 6.0 cm/sec.
